Amalgamation of Boorowa, Harden and Young Shires

The Mayor of Young Shire Councillor Brian Ingram today welcomed the announcement made today by the Premier Mike Baird and Minister for Local Government Paul Toole MP regarding the outcomes from the Fit for the Future process. Clr Ingram said “I am pleased to see that the preferred recommendation by the Boorowa and Young Shires has been accepted by the State Government and I understand if there is some concern in the Harden Shire regarding today’s announcement. Despite this I am committed to building a strong region and to ensuring that all our towns benefit from any amalgamation.”

Council’s General Manager David Aber said “Now that the announcement has been made on the proposed changes the focus of our staff will remain on keeping business as usual and ensuring that our community’s services function normally as we work through this process. A full consultation process with communities and their councils will begin early in the New Year and be run by the NSW Boundaries Commission.

Clr Ingram said “This is about providing the best possible local government services and our focus must remain as we continue delivering those services on improving their value and quality to all our merged communities.” He also thanked the Young Council staff and Councillors for their assistance with the Fit for the Future project. He also expressed his confidence in their ability of the staff to continue providing services as normal as we move into the next phase of the merger proposal.

Mr Aber added, “We will remain committed to keeping the community fully informed on developments as they come to hand.”
