1826 James White squattered at Burrangong.

1830 First white child, Sarah White born at Burrangong.

1860 The Sydney Morning Herald reported on August 4 a gold find of 7.5 ounces at Lambing Flat.

1860 First courts of Petty Sessions at Burrangong and Stoney Creek.

1861 First anti-Chinese riots in January.

1861 First Lambing Flat newspaper, the Miner, started in February.

1861 Lambing Flat Post Office established in March.

1861 Young town laid out in April 1861 Free Selection Act passed.

1861 Lambing Flat and Burrangong became Young in April. Named after Sir John Young, Governor of NSW.

1861 Court House built but burnt in riots.

1861 Major anti-Chinese riots in July.

1861 Young National School opened.

1861 Young’s first race meeting. The winner was stolen by bushranger Frank Gardiner.

1861 Chinese Immigration Restriction Act passed in November.

2001 Hennessy College inaugurated and St Mary’s Primary moves to Elizabeth St.

2001 New water reservoir opened.
